SLOCL Campus Dean Erica Flores Baltodano will moderate a discussion with author and former legal writing professor Collette Hillier about the power of storytelling in the legal profession.

  • Professor Hillier will share her experience working full time while attending an evening law school.
  • Presentation will highlight the importance of storytelling in the law: Laws are always changing, so in order to be a successful attorney, one must not only know how to research and apply the law, but also how to do the storytelling that brings the law to life.
  • Students will hear examples of this storytelling from Professor Hillier's recently published book, Cultivating Justice, which tells the stories of the young people behind the cases that shaped various aspects of our constitutional law.
  • The presentation will help students learn why sharing their own stories with their classmates and professors during law school, and understanding their client's stories, is a powerful way to build connections, enhance legal outcomes, and ultimately cultivate justice.

This event is free and open to the public. Anyone interested in learning more about San Luis Obispo College of Law is encouraged to attend. For more information, contact ebaltodano@slolaw.org.
